News flash: brunch is back for summer, duh!

While most of the restaurants in Chicago that offer brunch serve year round, a good portion of them hibernate during those cold months until the local forecast shows smiley-faced sun graphics. These are some restaurants that have decided to dust off the front stoop for a pleasant Sunday morning rise ‘n’ shine.

Matisse Tavern and Grill
Did you get blasted the night before at the bar? Come back the next day for brunch with sweets like Banana Empanadas and Turtle French Toast, or savory skillets and omelets. The restaurant’s fully stocked bar offers specials like housemade Sangria, Bellinis and Bloody Marys. Served Sat. and Sun. 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Matisse Tavern and Grill is located at 674 W. Diversey Ave. in Lincoln Park. For more information, call 773.426.7897.

Rodan
Another painterly name serving a masterpiece brunch. Starting May 16, Rodan will be back at it, serving unique brunch dishes like Berbere lentils with poached eggs, steak and eggs with chimichurri, and Togarashi burgers with fried egg and roasted potatoes. Brunch will be served starting this weekend on Sat. and Sun., 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Rodan is located at 1530 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park. For more information, call 773.276.7036.

Duchamp
Honestly, the back-to-back-to-back of restaurants with artist names was completely unintentional. Maybe it’s a sort of ironic homage to the starving artists we know and love. That said, Duchamp is opening up the patio for seasonal al fresco dining. Chef Michael Taus is bringing some new recipes to the table this summer, including Mango Pancakes with Mango-Bourbon Syrup and Grilled Flatbread with Tomatoes, Feta Cheese, Spinach and Sunny-Side Up Eggs. Duchamp is now open for brunch on Sun. at 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Duchamp is located at 2118 N. Damen Ave. in Bucktown. For more information, call 773.235.6434.

Fat Cat
Is it the sunshine or the Stoli that makes it feel like you’re walking alongside a personal Bill Withers serenade? Fat Cat’s patio is open for brunch and after a couple of fill-ups from their Stoli Bloody Mary Cart, where you can make your own Bloody by choosing your rim, liquor and skewer, you’ll appreciate the fresh air for a sobering walk home. Fat Cat is presenting a new brunch menu for this season, including twists like Eggs in a Blanket (prosciutto-wrapped egg with a touch of cream and fried sage leaves) and Mancakes (bacon-studded buttermilk pancakes). Brunch is served Sat. and Sun. 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Fat Cat is located at 4840 N. Broadway in Uptown. For more information, call 773.506.3100.

Citizen Bar
I was about to toss this aside as your standard eggs and toast brunch until I saw this: Amaretto French Toast with creme anglaise, cherries and apricots. Sure, they have breakfast burritos and eggs with better ingredients than Denny’s, but I think the money maker might be this French Toast. Too bad it’s not served year round. Brunch is served Sun. 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Citizen Bar is located at 364 W. Erie St. in River North. For more information, call 312.640.1156
